About Oaj Ayurveda

Our Inspiration

Oaj Ayurveda was established by the family of our revered freedom fighter and senior Ayurvedic physician, the late Vaidya Maniram Sharma, and his wife, the late Smt. Kamala Sharma, as a means to realize their shared dream. Vaidyaji envisioned making Ayurvedic treatment—rooted in the original Ayurvedic *Samhitas* (ancient texts) and capable of effectively treating complex and severe ailments at affordable rates—accessible to the common people, thereby liberating them from disease.

Vaidyaji completed his education at the Gaur Brahmin Ayurvedic College in Lahore in 1936. During his studies, following the killing of Lala Lajpat Rai by the British government during a *lathi-charge* (baton charge) in Lahore, a deep desire took root in Vaidyaji’s heart to join the freedom movement and help liberate the nation. However, at the behest of his father—who was serving as a religious chaplain in the army and was stationed in Lahore at the time—he first completed his education before joining the independence struggle. For his involvement, he was subjected to persecution by the British government; he was imprisoned on multiple occasions, and his agricultural land was confiscated by the authorities. In recognition of these contributions, the Government of India—under the leadership of the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi—honored him with a *Tamra Patra* (Copper Plate of Honor).

Following the country’s independence, he served as a government physician in his home state of Rajasthan, eventually retiring as the Deputy Director of the Department of Ayurveda, Government of Rajasthan. Subsequently, he dedicated himself to providing free instruction at the Parasrampuria Ayurvedic College in Sikar.

Today, Oaj Ayurveda continues to render its services in the field of healthcare under the guidance of his son, Dr. Anil Kumar Sharma. Himself a practicing Ayurvedic physician who retired as the Additional Director of the Department of Ayurveda (Government of Rajasthan), Dr. Sharma possesses over 42 years of clinical experience. Throughout his career as a government physician, he has successfully helped hundreds of cancer patients become cancer-free by providing them with supportive Ayurvedic therapy; under his leadership, Oaj Ayurveda remains committed to carrying forward the legacy of his father’s Ayurvedic knowledge and traditions with unwavering resolve.
